Why don't Google and Apple work together to create a single smartphone platform? In the end, cities are businesses. NYC's tax base might only be slightly improved if Boston becomes the east-coast leader. Alternatively, if Boston and NYC have some competition, each city will boost its scene and overall the east-coast will improve. There is nothing wrong with a little competition :)
