Turning off modem/router for the night saves a bit of energy though (about enough energy to boil the water for my morning tea), with the added benefit of preventing me from compulsive internet browsing on my tablet at night.

This obviously won't save the planet or my wallet, but helps me with being mindful at least.




Based on your described power usage, I assume your modem/router is actually a regular x86 PC


15W * 8h = 120Wh. For that, you can run a 2000W kettle for 216 seconds, or 3.6 minutes.


OK, I stand corrected. 0.12kWh is a somewhat significant amount, enough to boil a cup of tea.


Bought in the windows 95 era...
