One can make a good argument for Brave being able to bootstrap and fund a new browser with this. There are folks all thru the stack making money here.
Based on this guys understanding of the space, I don't think they are going to make it. More virtue signaling that they are not part of the revolution. No problem, lets see where it goes.
Vivaldi has also funded a new browser and are making money through it.
Further, the team behind has done it once before at a time where the browser environment was also much more difficult. You couldn’t just embed Blink to handle all your rendering.
And they didn’t dip into what may be a scam or involved stealing money from content owners.
The Brave token actually represents value at least. You engage with an ad, you get rewarded, the advertiser is happy you clicked - there is really nothing nebulous, confusing or shady going on there.
