I half agree. I do in fact think its ben baked in from the get go, just that there was a period where it was not an obvious pillar; you could in fct do all kinds of essentially innocuous things and accept some surveillance capitalism with awareness of your wn liabilities.
It's now become so much larger and problematic, that the 'emergent property' is that every move adds weight to the need for the firms dismemberment into smaller units, or punishing regulatory limits. And I mean truly brutally, snap-noise making bone-breaking regulations.
