I think this is mostly throwing out chaff for PR purposes:
1) They're not giving the money back, or better and less conflict-of-interesty, giving it to a neutral pro-foss org like FSFE
2) They continue to intimately support freenode
3) Fosshost directors remain as freenode staff but in a """personal""" capacity, despite being overruled unanimously by the fosshost non-director staff.
Nothing concrete has changed, the only thing they have done is roll back their desire to integrate more deeply.
Staff continuing on as freenode staff is really dodgy, especially now that #python was just manually hijacked in the last 24 hours and Python foundation staff klined. Not a good look to be in such company.
