It's normal behavior and understandable that a woman will lie about it because of the social stigma but genetically it's biologically sensible for her to try to get as much material as she can when she's fertile. Even though she remembers this she's not going to risk her having another potential person to take care of her in her old age by telling the truth. Plus the stigma plays a part in her being reluctant to tell Emma the truth.
