I have been following a carnivorous diet for a year and it's been interesting to see the reaction of people whenever the topic of food is brought up in conversation. I find it especially funny the way vegan or vegetarian talk about what they eat. So, knowing well how it will drive the conversation, I will drop in the fact that I eat animal based products. A silence will follow, then the vegan or vegetarian will start defending their "religion", instead of keeping the conversation they would advance arguments without being asked. This is when I know they've tied their identify to this virtue signaling. Now I use this topic as a heuristic to quickly know if I should avoid those people ;)
good tactic :) I observe the same virtue signaling. It's a very powerful belief. Recently someone told me they had to watch Game Changers 10 times because it seemed illogical. But now the same person thinks it's gospel. There are so many associations tied into vegetarianism, it moves people in ways they don't aknowledge
