Still, having support for a URI similar to doi, maybe as e.g. iso:8601 (with similar specs for din, en, etc) would be neat.

RFC 5141[0] has a mapping of ISO standards to the URN namespace.

SO the latest version of the English-language version of ISO 8601-1 would be encoded as

urn:iso:std:iso:8601:-1:en
