Isadore Singer Bridged Math and Physics (quantamagazine.org)

"Bridged" math and physics? I thought it must be a bad title, but the text also acts like they're ever separate - am I unusual in having been taught that physics was barely anything but the raw junction between math and reality? How would you ever do physics as anything but worked math?

Oh don't be snarky, I mean for goodness sake, the subheader makes it more than clear what is intended:

> A former graduate student reflects on how Isadore Singer, who died on February 11, brought together mathematicians, physicists and anyone else interested in the deeper connections between diverse fields.

Having studied physics and knowing plenty of mathematicians I can safely say that none of us would have been confused as to what this is referring to, even without that subtitle.

Yes, all physics uses maths. That's not what this title is referring to. It's referring to actually being a mathematician or physicist in the last century - of being part of that professional community and the research done within those communities. Because the main interests of mathematicians and physicists have diverged a lot and having them work together is not at all a given these days.

Quanta magazine always has clickbait-y titles, you can tell when a Quanta article reaches the front page without even looking at the source URL. Do they seem more popular recently to anyone else, or am I just starting to notice it now?

I've noticed too but I think it's just the classic self-sustaining HN cascade where posting a website triggers posts from the same website, or on the same subject, because people find other interesting links in the comments or on the website itself.

Actual title (noted because it appears to be raising questions, has it changed there or been editorialised here?):

Isadore Singer Transcended Mathematical Boundaries
