Partly because we try to prune the heaviest subthreads by detaching their heaviest sub-subthreads, and partly because it was a step into partisan argument, which is a step away from curiosity. That doesn't make your comment wrong—I hope that's clear. It's just that curiosity is what we're trying to optimize for.
