That's true. The original contract manufacturer for Dr Martens, Solovair, is still making their own shoe designs in the same factory in England though.
If you want a nice pair of monkey boots, Solovair are the guys to go and see not Dr Martens.

If you're going to get something once it's nice to find a firm that actually does both the design and the manufacture in their own factories even if you pay a small premium over a generic knock off.
Indeed. I didn't know about Solovair, although I'm not really into that style. But I have bought all my shoes from factory shops of Northamptonshire shoes companies. They keep the lasts for all of their shoes so they can continue to repair and refurbish old models.
