You don't go out to a restaurant and order a "personal salad" or even a "personal lasagna" (even though the restaurant obviously makes a whole tray's worth).

You sort of do. There is a distinction between salads intended for the table to share, salads intended as a single person;s entree, and salads intended as a single person's accompaniment.

If I saw "personal lasagna" on a menu, I would expect something that was baked as a single portion. Otherwise, I would expect a portion cut out of a larger tray. Essentially, "personal" here is a reference to the size of the unit that was prepared and cooked and not merely the serving size.

Same with pizza. I expect a "personal pizza" to be a complete pizza that is reasonable for one person.


Not really. It's a size. You can get extra large, large, medium, small and personal. It's something like 16 in diameter for an extra large, 14 in for large, etc. The personal pizza is around 6 in.
