Here is Apple making it harder for the web to compete with closed wall gardens. Web apps could require the same permissions for accessing hardware as mobile apps do. On Firefox, when a website wants access my webcam, it asks me, for example...



On Safari, when a website wants access to my webcam, it asks me.


Cool, so Apple "can" add features to Safari. They should add more.


That's one opinion. Another opinion is that they don't have to implement "standards" that other companies come up with just so they can further infiltrate the systems in place on their platform.

Who says Apple shouldn't just make Safari a hypertext-only browser and let the consumers vote with their wallets and their feet?

Honestly I'd prefer that.

Me! I'm a consumer with a wallet and feet. And I would like Safari to have more features.
