I think the idea is that by using people's real names, the comments and community is slightly less toxic. I have no idea if this is true or not.



From what I've of FB comments, this is almost entirely untrue.

Look at all the dumb things people say with their real names on Twitter as well.

Discussion is civil when you actually cultivate civil discussion, not when you force people to use real names.
