I ported computation-heavy application code on the MacOS to PowerPC architecture, and benchmarked the results for the client. I do not have the graphs handy, but I cant agree with the first section here entirely. It is true that the performance did not live up to the expectations, but overall it was a win. There was so much money, vanity and spin at that time, bringing millions of consumers into the world of computing, multiplied by media and unscrupulous marketers. I do not know what a consumer would expect in those days, depends on who you asked and their vantage point. Every camp was guilty of exaggeration I would say.
