Also, sometimes you might know someone who would be the best co-founder, but they just aren't in a position to be a co- founder (family, other commitments etc). But, you can still have them assist as mentors. I think a strong single founder with a good group of mentors could be as good as 2 founders. Also, at a later stage, that mentor might find themselves in a position to join the venture.
