I see a lot of mention of neural networks in relation to Autopilot. However, it's hard to imagine that those pursuing automatic driving wouldn't combine neural networks with normal old rules and safety thresholds (ie "just brake" if a new, sufficiently large, mostly uniform object is filling much of the sensors).

Is this not the case?
