"Curators, ranging from WarnerMedia editors to celebrities, put together a list of movies and TV shows they’re watching"

ok so how do I know which human's taste is the same as mine. If only there was a recommendation engine for that.

I would really dig lists from people I trust or follow. Get directors, actors, artists, editors, critics to really curate some lists and I'm in. Even better if they can add a couple of lines to tie the list within a theme or idea, not just a dump of series/films.

Only problem I see is it might end up being just marketing and they'll just use the celebrity name and dump the films they want to push.

I've recently started using letterboxd. There's some pretty interesting lists there. For movies only.

Here's a crowdsourced list:

I imported all of Roger Ebert's reviews:

His 381 "Great Movies":

A list of obscure films:

Listed tagged with "top ten":

It's not as if Netflix recommendation attempts are any good either.

HBO has human defined categories that makes sense.

Its the category-defying movies that are interesting. Somebody might not click on Foreign Films but love Parasite.

You would look at their recommendations? Or you can follow the ones you like already?

This is super simple stuff.

You beat me to it. I certainly want to be able to watch things recommended by $celebrity2.

Well, with a decent catalog, and if it's not really marketing bullshit, I would certainly like to see a list of <my-favorite-director>'s favorites.

Why not? I know a lot of people who read and watch stuff that Bill Gates or Gwyneth Paltrow recommends. He's a celebrity. Other people have different celebrities. If you look up to a person, it's only natural to be interested in what they are interested in. People on HN think they are too good to care about celebrities, but we all know that's a total lie.

If $celebrity = Tarantino then yes, that’s actually interesting.
