Yes. Maintainers themsevels are also fully capable of breaking support for HW they don't have.

It's a collaborative project. If support for your HW gets broken, you can bug someone to fix it or fix it yourself.

What I do to keep my HW working is fetch -rc1, test it, and send fixes.
