Devil's advocate, but I have a feeling black people, at least in the US, are driven to look "hipper" from systemic racism.

When society is generally more suspicious and condescending it makes sense to pay more attention to how others precieve you.

I'm a fat middle aged white dude. My superpower is blending in with any crowd. I've noticed that most friends who aren't "white" looking pay more attention to their appearance IMO.

I appreciate the effort but it's a damn shame that this is a "thing" in America. Would be nice to see a study done in a country with less historic racism like Brasil


Are we talking about different behavioral expressions of races' genes now?
