As a Puerto Rican preparing for Irma, yes, we're pretty freaked.

I have been through a category 3 hurricane(Ivan) in the Caribbean and it devastated the island, cost us over a billion in damages and took about 10 years to recover. Its not something I want to go through again. A category 5 at those wind speeds, even block structures with hip and gable roofing and short eaves can be torn off and have walls fall. I hope you and everyone in this hurricane's path safety.

Woah. Thanks for the wishes.

Stay safe and I hope all goes well with minimal damage.

Thank you!

Hey Im also a local. pryelluw@gmail.com if anything!

heart goes out to viaques, which looks like it'll take a worse hit then the main island

For sure. Vieques and Culebra are going to have a seriously difficult time.

This is shockingly bad "advice".

A Category 5 hurricane is not a point source, and storm prediction is far from an exact science.

It was expected to go north today. Unfortunately, all models were wrong and it actually is coming much faster to our direction, and it keeps getting stronger. I'm legitimately scared.

We all are.

I’m in Guaynabo. Not close to the coast, so I didn’t have to evacuate.

Came down for the weekend, stayed because of the hurricane...

Be safe!
