AMD was far behind Intel (factor of 2-3x slower) in x87 implementation performance for a long time, and continues to be; no doubt that was one of the factors leading them to try to deprecate it when they designed AMD64.
Are you seriously trying to claim that AMD felt compelled to invent a whole new CPU architecture just because you believe it couldn't implement FPATAN right?
