That ANSI program sounds oddly familiar, but I never owned honest IBM PC. I started out with a second hand 486 based clone (complete with MS-DOS and Win3.11 on floppies), after having been an Amiga 500 kid for a number of years.

Maybe you're thinking of MemMaker.exe (bundled with MS-DOS starting around version 6)

Yep, seems so. Seems the PC-DOS program did the same job, but had been developed by a different company.
