Yeah, that's the thing too...high-end sets are still better than cheap sets. TL;DR you get what you pay for. If you get a 50" 4K TV for $500, I wouldn't expect it to be very good. Vizio's 2016 P series is decent, but they more or less lie about the ability to render proper 4:4:4 chroma at 4K resolution. Not great for a $1200 TV (which I use as a monitor, upon which a single-pixel-wide red line is very blurry). The equivalent Samsung which can do real 4:4:4 at 4k@60hz is close to $2k, ditto the Sony, and the Sony has input lag issues while the Vizio will do 120hz@1080p with ~10ms input delay, which is great for gaming. The Samsung is OK for input lag (~30ms IIRC) but more expensive and I just don't like giving Samsung money.
