Is it CL only? Because Clojure is pretty convenient for game design when you tie in the LWJGL and friends...

It seems to be part of the CL community that is setting this up so I would assume so. I'd ask on #lispgames though.

EDIT: I asked; am waiting for a reply. Will post when (if) I get it.

2nd EDIT: It appears that they haven't decided. I'd go ahead and submit your idea.

I wonder how they deal with corner cases. I imagine, say, Dylan can be seen as more Lispy than newLisp.

But--they won't have to optimize for that. They can deal with the common cases.

A friend of mine wrote this some time ago in Apple Dylan for the Newton 2x00:

I don't think pre-written games would be allowed though :)

Also would like to know if Clojure is allowed.

While I am not part of the project - based on the fact the wikipedia link just goes to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisp_%28programming_language%29 - I would assume that any lisp listed in the "dialects" in the sidebar would be a go? Meaning arc, scheme, clojure etc.

On the other hand, their wiki is hosted on "The Common Lisp Wiki", all the libraries they mention are exclusively Common Lisp, and their mailing list description says "The purpose of this list is to provide community to Common Lisp game developers."

But it's irrelevant in the grand scheme of things... The purpose of the thing is to motivate yourself to make a game; there are no winners or prizes or anything. So if you like, you can put your name on the list, and if your finished game is "disqualified" for being in the wrong language, you've still got your game, so you still win.

If you know of Clojure etc resources to add, feel free to edit the wiki page. It's hosted on Cliki but i don't think anyone will mind.

Oh great. That's all the Lisp community needs is a hoard of different Lisps competing to see who can write the coolest game using their particular dialect!

Indeed, you can even use JMonkeyEngine from Clojure.

I would like to know if Scheme counts as a Lisp, for the purposes of the contest...

How in the world could it not?

Hello folks, I've updated the compo site and wiki page to reflect that the contest is indeed open to any dialect of Lisp. Best of wishes to all participants!

Perfect timing - I've been playing around with arcade-style games in Clojure, trying to get them to work as applets.

I'm confused - it says 7 days, but lists the 18th thru the 1st, which is 14 days... Are you only allowed half of that time?

When you announce your entry you state your starting time and for you the clock starts from that point.

Ah ha, thank you!
