For moral truths to be objective is high on my list of things I would like to be true, and not only because I would prefer alien life we encounter to be more like Culture Minds than Kzin. One of the few really important things we lost through the rise of rationality was the conviction that things really matter, and I think this loss is behind problems ranging from corrupt politics to crappy software to the agonizingly overdone cynicism that runs through pop culture. I have little hope that Parfait's massive opus will be widely read, but perhaps its ideas will find their way down, by some means.
