Bugs me when people choose a name that's already being used for something much better known.

If they launch a hosted version they could call it "Eve Online"

You mean the game? Not sure there's much potential for confusion.

The game is famous enough to create real confusion. Especially in geek social circles I guess a very high percentage of people immediately think about the game when seeing "Eve".

To be fair, the game is also basically groupware and spreadsheets and databases ;)

[especially for the corps that take nullsec seriously]

I haven't thought about it but, hey, you're right!

The game was the first thing I thought of when I saw the title as well.

I read "Sum" as "Sun" and was trying to figure out why there was a bubble with "salary" in it.

I don't even play the game, and I was immediately confused by the HN headline. I thought it was going to be a blog post about the history of the game and its first version.

There is a Python library called Eve for creating REST endpoints based on your database schema. I thought that was what this was since that is also in version 0.

When I clicked this article, I was genuinely hoping it was about CCP deciding to release some of the early/foundational code for Eve Online.

There's also one of Englightenment's supporting libs called Eve IIRC.
