For different reasons the same works for me. I've had OCD that has gotten worse/changed over the last 7 years since I started having problems. I've been on various SSRIs that help, but not in the ways I need. About one beer is what I need to be able to focus and accomplish something and be happy with how I spend an evening.

This. ^ As someone pretty new to the HN community, I really feel like the idea in the above comment would make it easier to contribute my ideas and thoughts to a discussion.

Although it doesn't seem like that(monetizing) was the intent of the article and instead a (brief)overview of different advantages, I agree. It would be nice to see some examples, case studies etc about that.

He did mention; "What’s interesting is that we don’t choose the division between free and paid (support, training, consulting, etc) - its the users who do that - based on how critical their applications are.", which seems to be the common way to monetize opensource/free products. It would have been nice if that was gone into a bit more.

Over all I did enjoy the article.

Right now consumers who watch regular TV have to either set aside time to watch the shows they want or DVR them. They get to pay for and watch a lot of commercials for this privilege. Meanwhile consumers who watch TV shows on Hulu can watch current episodes, and often previous ones they may have missed for free, with only a few minutes of commercials per episode. They have the option of paying(a lot less) for more previous episodes and even whole series. There will always be the people who don't want to/wont pay for anything.

To me it seems like the best deal for consumers is Hulu. If Cable networks focused more on making shows people really like to watch, plus things that require live viewing and also invested more into infrastructure to deliver content to consumers in more than one convenient way, everyone wins. The networks may even be able to get some of the people who generally only download content to use their legitimate channels of distribution if they make it easier.

On top of all of that, if they would offer this service in non US areas, the amount of eyes on their shows, ads and even people willing to pay would be enormous.

I wonder how much more artificial and heavily processed ingredients those kids are taking in verses those of parents buying groceries and making their kids a lunch. It could definitely end being less healthy for a lot of kids, ignoring the fact that different people need different amounts of nutrients based on their diet away from school as well as other factors of their health.

hmmm. Never realized that before. Thanks!

It's an experiment, may stop happening.

Struggling with OCD and depression myself, it can be very difficult to do anything, socializing, hobbies etc. There is some really good advice on here though.

Definitely consider talking to someone. A close friend, family even. I'd really suggest trying to find a counselor, psychologist or psychiatrist though. It might take some time to find one that you feel comfortable with, don't give up. I'm still looking.

I hadn't thought of suggesting this, but I have been having a problem with this myself, and that is entagld's comment(1st right now) - "It would be great if you could eventually talk about a passion you have with someone who shares it." I'd even extend that to working on a project that you are passionate about with someone. You would be surprised how much of a difference this can make.

I really hope you can find some direction or help from the comments here. Good luck.

Just spent a couple minutes in CashFlow and I'm looking forward using it more. I set up an account with Mint a while ago hoping I could do something similar but this is just so much better for what I wanted to do.

I am a heavy Mint user myself. I track my past expenses using their tools. I use CashFlow to predict my future balances. Just remember to manually update you current balances (bank, credit card) on CashFlow any time you want to do any form of analysis. It takes a minute or two for me to update my balances (login to Mint, refresh, copy-paste balances).
