Also, vibe coding has really become a skill in itself. Does it allow the average non-programmer to go to production easily (and likely have bugs/flaws)? Yes. But as someone who used to be a programmer and just fell out of skill with all of it, I've found that what I do still have is a keen sniff test for good vs bad, and can guide the direction and architecture with proper planning.
I’m not convinced by this study at all. I’d like to know whether the risk of circulation-related issues was more applicable to people already at risk for those issues. I use a standing desk almost daily and it’s really alleviated my spinal issues, along with making me feel more energised throughout the day.
The country is neither fascist nor a dictatorship.
However, the legal overhaul does curtail the court's ability to assert a more libertarian, liberal agenda. The government is pushing a religious agenda that will change the nature of the country, and that causes significant consternation to the largely secular population that makes up the hi-tech nation.
Its missing two salient points to be fascist: the myth of national rebirth and the accusations against 'internal enemies' (although it seems this point is missing a bit less).
Still, Israel is about as authoritarian as France/Hungary and a bit less than Turkiye. Hardly the worst but still.
If you listen to political rhetoric from the ruling party and the far right coalition parties, anyone who doesn't agree with them, their crazy ideology or sing high praises to the supreme leader, is a traitor. This has been the case for a decade now, getting worse and worse. How long before they pass "anti-traitor" laws, making political dissent illegal? With the supreme court unable to protect citizen rights, there is literally nothing to stop such laws.
But judging from some comments here, that's a "liberal agenda".
Yes, I sort of know (that what I heard from an Israeli traveller in Lisbon). That's why I said 'although it seems this point is missing a bit less', but it was poorly formulated (english is hard sometimes).
No but its moving there, you don't need to be political expert to see it. Its also not a matter of past few months. Its a country in quite an unique situation which I don't fully comprehend so can't comment much, but West bank situation is beyond sad and I don't see any hope for improvement.
How is it moving there? By making supreme court justices be appointed by elected officials (like most other democracies) as apposed to being a self selecting group.
The foreign actor point is a good one. But I’m still confused as to why right wing nationalists would not have gotten the information from the internet that Erdogan’s policies are destroying their economy. Is his voter base largely less educated?
N=1 and also probably too many variables to learn from this - keto itself is already a massive lifestyle intervention. Did you restrict calories as well? Exercise?
I started IF only after I had been doing keto for about six weeks. At that point it was frankly easy because I wasn't getting hungry or having cravings anymore. I can't tease out how much IF contributed but I'd already lost a remarkable amount of weight on just keto. In general, I'd recommend only making one significant change at a time.
Calorie tracking and restriction pretty much comes with strict keto. Transitioning to keto rigorously requires detailed tracking of every molecule that goes in your mouth (with a food scale and measuring cups), at least for the first 12 weeks. I tracked constantly for about 6 mos until it was automatic for me and I knew every food and portion I typically encounter at a glance. It's hard at first but only tracking part way is the #1 reason for failing to get results.
I didn't do any exercise at all while losing weight, in fact while changing diet I was more sedentary than my usual slug-like activity level due to work and life factors. For me, exercise has always been hard, unpleasant and inevitably makes me hungrier. N=1 but that's what worked best for me and my weight loss was dramatic and super fast (>100 lbs in 8 mos).
What's cool is how the ants keep airbubbles around them so if you push the whole raft underwater, it turns into a ball and keeps an air bubble around it. Really amazing stuff!
Great talk, thank you! David Hu talking about how animals repel water: 1. ant rafts, water-repellent surfaces, surface tension 2. mosquitos vs water drops, 3. mammals shaking off water. Covers a lot of fascinating ground. (It's not a great quality video but he shows a lot of videos too which are mostly visible enough.) David seems to have qualifications in biology, mathematics and engineering!
I’m a Canadian software engineer but my degree is in law (I’m a self-taught developer). Do people in my situation manage to get H1B or TN visas despite not having a technical degree?
[Used to be in a similar situation as yours (have a LLB, became a software engineer), but not a lawyer in any capacity]
My understanding is that H1B rules allow 3 years of experience to count as one year of a relevant degree. So if you don't have any higher education in computing subjects, theoretically 12 years of relevant experience would meet the requirements.
That said even if you legally meet the requirements, non-typical cases often get mishandled due to administrative error. In my case, I applied for a L1 visa (which unlike H1B does not have degree requirements) but the officer somehow decided to apply H1B requirements anyway and rejected the application (he probably got confused). There was no feasible appeal process, so our lawyers advised me to go on a trip to another jurisdiction and re-apply. It worked out in the end, but the officer basically told me that we weren't supposed to shop around different consulates like that, but he did say he'd look up the law before deciding, presumably he wasn't able to find any legal basis for rejecting the application. (The process was pretty exciting!)
Was in similar situation, though Australian. I got a letter from an education/certification expertly that said my past experience as dev and education (also had a BA) was equivalent to a BS. Recommend you get an attorney/Peter to help you
A bachelor's degree in a related field based on an evaluation of education and experience can work in the H-1B context but is not acceptable in the TN context where a bachelor's degree is required.
Can a master in the field replace the bachelor? Eg. I have a bachelor in business, going through a master in CS, am I eligible for TN visa as Software Engineer or Computer Systems Analyst?
There could be massive differences in quality between LLMs.
