Deviantart? Seems you're in the wrong millennium? Deviantart started in 2000 and at that time I fondly remember us making fun of 90s web design by creating mock sites with 88x31 graphics. In -97 I remember it being all the rage though. :) Three, four or five years may not sound like a lot of time, but the web was changing at a pretty rapid pace back then.

88x31s were still alive and well on early deviantART: https://www.deviantart.com/fractalmbrown/art/Baby-deviantART...

I'm sincerely hoping that was a sarcastic comment.

Some people still do this. http://john.ankarstrom.se/html/

Some surprisingly large tech companies still to this.

It's Hacker News after all. :)

Not necessarily. Smartphones have reached a level of performance and maturity that I could easily use one for 7 years if it wasn't for the planned obsolescence. But, somehow security updates stop arriving (even for Lineage). My next handset will be a Fairphone. At least they seem to be doing what they can to keep their devices running [1].

Apple is doing better. My SO has had their iPhone SE for 5 years now and updates keep coming.

> In incognito, I get nothing similar to what I would actually watch. Nothing is even remotely similar. It's scarily different, and none of it interests me.

Same here. 100% generic clickbait crap and exactly the same stuff that shows in a Ungoogled Chromium incognito window. I hardly ever use Chromium.

I use Cookie AutoDelete, uBlock Origin, Decentraleyes and a VPN for casual surfing though.

uMatrix has been discontinued. The repository has been archived.

It was great but it was also a dread, even after training it. If you visit mostly the same sites I guess it's fine.

> uMatrix has been discontinued. The repository has been archived.

It still works.

Yes, maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like it should continue to work just fine until there is some significant change in how HTTP works.

Or of course if the browser stops providing the necessary API, which seems the most likely cause for the demise of uMatrix, at least in the shorter term.

Here's another one: https://screenotate.com/

TBH, I first struggled to see if this was a mock website.

Film festival laurels galore, the world's best text editor, best results, best support, best usability. I mean, how best can a text editor be?

It’s an awesome editor.

Apparently :)

I'm mostly fine with those permissions as long as it's a recommended extension[1]. Otherwise: no, never. Bait and switch is real.
