Not a solution for the average user, but this works: https://github.com/bepaald/signalbackup-tools

Unfortunately that’s for the Android app. Signal iOS has no way of backing up your messages, at all.

> When I delete my account I'm going to lose old conversations

I've deleted my account twice and each time I exported all my data to HTML (without uploading to Google). It's possible.

Matrix with nerds and nerd friends. Signal with friends and family.

Totally. And now, I will easily convert some members of my family to Matrix.

It's getting there with clients like https://f-droid.org/packages/de.spiritcroc.riotx and https://f-droid.org/packages/org.tether.tether

But just explaining the concept of clients in 2021 is an undertaking.

Bug? More like a bird.

How about https://webmention.io/ ? Fediverse-friendly and Twitter-friendly.

seems like a cool idea, but without any demo to try, it's hard to go for it

Awesome! https://archivebox.io/ should be mentioned in this context too.

With a locked down OS like iOS I don't know.

On Android there's plenty of choice. NewPipe is a dream[1]. Firefox with uBlock Origin works well. There's Kiwi (Chromium) with uBlock Origin too.

Why would any knowledgeable person put up with this? uBlock and enjoy.

> Instead of serving dozens of icons, all you need is just five icons and one JSON file.

Oh, only six files to to serve a freaking favicon. Thanks, that made me feel more optimistic about the contemporary www...

> the JSZip Plugin with the ability to dynamically create Zip files, and thus to conveniently build multi-file static sites within the browser

How cool is dat!?

I'm using the same techniques in my client-side epub generator.
