AudioBOokGENerator -> abogen

One should stop asuming everyone is versed in all slangs (or slurs for that matter) existing in all languages in the world. The author seems to have a Turkish name, thus I will assume he is Turkish and so I would guess he didnt think much about the name.

Idk what world you live in, but Germany has clearly been in recession, unemplyment rose over the last few years and the rest of the Eurozone is in a similar condition

stagnation != recession

Contraction in 2023, 2024 and stagnation in this year. It is still has the effects of a recession even if the official data doesnt reflect it.

I think this is the most uncharitable reading and understand of Hobbes that exists. The main argument (and context) is that men is evil and can only live in "civilization" by being forced into it by an absolutely powerful state. The fact this state is a monarchy, a dictatroship or a democracy is not the issue. The fact (in which he is right) a state needs absolute power and monopoly of that power. Modern democracies are a good example, they have the absolute power and thus are more stable and peaceful that warlord controlled pseudo-countries in Africa.

From Wikipedia:

"The purpose of the commonwealth is peace, and the sovereign has the right to do whatever he thinks necessary for the preserving of peace and security and prevention of discord. Therefore, the sovereign may judge what opinions and doctrines are averse, who shall be allowed to speak to multitudes, and who shall examine the doctrines of all books before they are published."

This is an explicit restriction of free speech, in line with what's happening nowadays in the UK.

In Europe, in order to be compliant with the new banking rules, you need to have a kind of external confirmation which is, ding ding ding your smartphone. You literally need to open your bank app in order to approve online transactions. And increasingly things are being digitalised thus you need will have an increasing need for smartphone because of such proposals.

The alternative is that the bank sneds you a clunky OTP machine with a code every time you want to make a purchase or transaction.

It seems another alternative is to build a scheme that works with a universal second factor like a yubikey.

Or SMS.

OP, did you also read Gray Mirror this morning. Curtis Yarvin went onto defend the IC idea this morning as a way to defend nascent industries (new industries). Interesting article, also presented the ideas of mercantilism of Friedrich List (originator of the Zollverein idea).

Thank you for that! I didn't know about Yarvin nor List. I will try to find out more.

Hi, thanks for the project and contributing a nice European alternative to Outline. I had a few questions relating to Docs as it seems a nice alternative I want to integrate in our company.

- Is it a project funded directly by the Governments or by the NGI funds?

- Is there an extensibility via plugins or other in the future thought for integrations ?

- Is the ProConnect the only way or can one use a self-hosted OIDC or another IdP to login?

Hey! Thanks for your interest. It's directly funded by the governments. BlockNotejs (the library doing the editor bit) received some funding from NGI. And now France and Germany are sponsoring the project (and also Yjs) No plugins plans for now. You can use your self-hosted OIDC, when you run the project locally you'll see a Keycloak as first screen. Let us know if you get it running docs@numerique.gouv.fr would love to hear your feedback as a reuser.

I dont have the exact stats under the hand but if you look in the CAC40. There is not a single innovative company founded independently in the last 40 years. All offshoots at best, at worst companies literally founded between 1890-1920, similar in Germany, Spain and Italy. It's kinda crazy ngl.

Indeed. However this is more reflective of a problem of private capital and attractivity of EU stock markets rather than the innovation horsepower.

Criteo, Datadog, Snowflake and the likes are European-based ventures but listed on the NASDAQ.

I think he is referring to this section 3 https://www.denic.de/en/content-pool/denic-domain-terms-and-...

To register a .de domain you need to give your address and legal name. And your national ccTLD is usually the only one that you are sure won't get pulled under you because there are some legally binding rules around it unlike .tv or .me

Its because of "Impressumspflicht" which requires me to have my legal name, address and phone number in an imprint on my website.

Is that specifically related to the Germany ccTLD or because you live in Germany? What would be the consequences of just... not doing it? Who even knows where a website author lives or publishes from?

> It's much better to measure things using Pareto frontiers: pick up the important dimensions that you want to measure a decision or your progress against

This is very interesting, could you develop more on this as I feel like I haven't completed understood it

For a functional VPN with all the telecom companies you should set up a v2ray/Xray node on a close VPS in a country near your area.

It is functional as I had to set up some for some people, if you need help I can guide you through it as there are not many good English guides.

Thanks for an advice, I'll have a look. Was planning to setup a Wireguard server, but things are moving in this area.
