According to Wikipedia, kyivinsider.com was founded with a grant from European Endowment for Democracy which like its American cousin, National Endowment for Democracy, is an NGO explicitly set up by Western intelligence agencies to push pro NATO narratives.

Looking through the grants list for NED: https://www.ned.org/explore-all-grants/

Not seeing anything related to NATO and a lot of noble humanitarian efforts.

There's a famous quote from the founder of NED [0]:

> "A lot of what we do today was done covertly 25 years ago by the CIA"

In the 1960s-70s, the US government found that covert foreign influence operations run by the CIA could seriously backfire when they were exposed. That's the reason why NED was founded. The idea was that a lot of this foreign influence can be done out in the open, removing the risk of scandal from exposure. It's an interesting approach that seems to have worked for the US.

According to Wikipedia, kyivinsider.com ...

Funny, the string "kyivinsider.com" does not appear in Wikipedia at all.

I checked and you're right - I could find nothing about Kyiv Insider on Wikipedia.

Clearly the Western conspiracy extends further than anyone realized... or something.

Indeed. It seems we're just not meant to know the truth.

While that statement has a grain of truth (NED having being created as a result of Reagan's NSDD-77 directive) I would rather eat democratic / neoliberal propaganda slop rather than what Russia / China (and their allies) are pushing. This comment kind of reeks of a particular kind of odour that is not quite whataboutism but is very similar to FSB demoralization propaganda. Given your account's relatively young age and other comments I somewhat feel you might have an ulterior motive?

The people you see with tables full of firearms for sale at gun shows are literally all FFL dealers.

Bari Weiss’s substack had an article month ago that talked about some of the known cases of claim #2.

https://www.thefp.com/p/debanking-america-melania-barron-tru...

Bari Weiss’ article seems to say that the concerns are bipartisan. Marc Andreesen outright said it was only folks on the right getting debanked and implied it was Elizabeth Warren doing the debanking.

Here is a thought experiment: what if Bernie had won in 2016 and remade the Democratic party in his image the way Trump eventually would?

Would the media and political power centers align with the Republican party?

Media, business and "power centers" of any kind align to wherever the power is, and take whatever form is necessary to tap into that power. The only ones actually wedded to ideology are the rubes who show up to the polls.

If a local police department wants phone records they have to go through the company's legal compliance department.

The disturbing revelation here is that it sounds like the federal government has direct backdoor access to all these records without having to show any warrants.

This is since a looong time. HTTPS does not offers any security. It just serves to identify you in case they want to.

Every telco in every country has specific systems for handling wiretaps, it’s called “LI” - “lawful intercept”. They don’t like to talk about it, even with their employees

>subvert an election by any means possible is not yet one of those warts

The Democrats are famous for trying to have 3rd party candidates stripped from ballots. Straining smaller campaigns under the cost of fighting off endless lawsuits.

Democrats invented the term lawfare.

You think the Republicans don't do similar things?

Republicans blazed a new trail in 2021, trying to actually change the outcome of an election in progress through force. This is not comparable to using legal processes. A better comparison might be the series of lawsuits the Republican Party attempted after force did not work. How many years until the guy who lost admitted that he lost? These actions strike at the very foundations of democracy. A non-trivial segment of citizens still think the election was somehow stolen from them, despite an utter lack of anything like evidence. We will be feeling reverberations from these actions for decades.

Would love to see SMIC apply for CHIPS act grants. Would be like the time Russia asked to join NATO.

Even in the USA courts have some limited investigation powers over matters under the jurisdiction of the court, for example when a draft of the Dobbs abortion ruling was leaked.

Brazil has dialed this up to 11 by declaring the Internet as being under their jurisdiction. That means they can act as judge, prosecutor, and jury and issue court orders regarding anything that happens on the Internet. There is zero recourse because they are the supreme court.

Laws don't even seem to be applicable at this point. It is one supreme court justice that is issuing court orders as if he were a king.

The law does apply. Xitter is being sued, but Elon refuses to appoint a legal representative in the country. The judge has the right to ban the product until the owner or their representative shows up.

Durov was forced to divest and flee Russia because he refused to censor and share private info on his users with the Russian government.

Now he has been arrested in France for refusing to censor and share private info on his users with Western governments.

Say what you want be he does stick to his principles.

>refused to censor and share private info

is that why there are tons of examples of russian dissidents being DOXXED on telegram? and non russia aligned OSINT accounts regularly deleted with no reason given?

Horrible horrible reflection on France. No wonder the entirety of Europe fair so poorly when it comes to innovation and tech compared to America.
