Since switching to the debian version, I have learned to dread every update.

What issues are you facing in the transition of TrueNAS from FreeBSD to Debian?

I've been on Debian since the switch and had no issues when OS updates. The kubernetes to docker transition was a little bumpy however.

It was rude and HN would be better off if you just stopped commenting if your level of effort is this low.

A good tip thanks, I did not know about 'zfs allow', I'll be playing with that this weekend.

I had pretty good speed on pixel 6 but the reinitializeling randomly made it useless.

I have also had this Firefox YouTube issue.

Modern liberals made "liberal" a bad word.

Maybe... but something doesn't sit right with that assertion.

Anyone against concentration camps now gets the "liberal" slur thrown at them. Why is that?

As someone who grew up with a dad who listened to conservative talk radio, "liberal" has been used as an epithet for at least thirty years. I was genuinely stunned in high school when I met people who would willingly refer to themselves as liberals.

You'll have to pardon me for rolling my eyes at the notion that modern liberals have somehow made the term a bad word given the general path of conservatism over the last several decades, not to mention the last eight years specifically.

Some old growth forest are susceptible to fur beetles which can destroy large areas of forest. In large fur forests you can easily do small select cutting in early spring to attract the beetles, in late spring you cut the tress and haul them out and the bugs get cooked in a kiln saving many trees.

Select logging is select logging, clear cuts is clear cuts. In general you cannot clear cut anymore, there are so many restrictions that guarantee trees are left standing. Wild life tree patches are required, bird trees, zones between water ways have to have a tree buffer zone. That does not include if you find a bear den, eagle nest or other similar things. You will be required to leave a large swath of trees around those areas.

If you have ever been around clear cuts or even select logging areas you will see a lot of wild life. It is much easier to see moose and deer around logging blocks. Lazy hunters often go to those areas to specifically hunt which is why a lot of logging roads these days are deactivated back to nature.

I have a done select logging in Canada for fire and bug control reasons. It can be done, the results were always great looking and also heavily reduced fuel for fires.

Forests need management it is simple, we let mother nature do it with fire or humans need to step up.

I was heavily protested in Canada while doing this, it was impossible to talk to protestors about why the thinning was needed.

FreeBSD has beta podman (OCI) support right now, using freebsd base images not Linux. It is missing some features but coming along.

They use it and influence its development. You can search freebsd git repo, you'll see Netflix all over it for many years Including 2025. They've added many large features across the code base.
