It's tempting. But too overpriced

Every week, at least once I am added to a spam Telegram group. It was fun earlier, but now it's a nuisance.

You can change that in Settings → Privacy and security → Invitations → Select My contacts

>You can change that in Settings → Privacy and security → Invitations → Select My contacts

Bizarre that that's not the default and that it's actually an option at all.

Not bizarre at all. How else would you invite people (study group, work, etc). Especially thinking 10 years back.

This is a sensible default for most people. If it is no more, then settings can be changed.

Wouldn't you first add those people as a contact?

If you use Telegram in a 100% private setting (only friends and family and private groups) you won't be invited anywhere else either.

When your name is out there in public channels things change. Just like with an email address

driving interaction count > your peace

It's like Google paying Apple. Doesn't mean Google is bad, just means it needs the traffic and Apple has the reach.

Google pays a rev share on the return it gets from the deal. This isn't pay and cross your fingers child's play here. Google makes most of the money for search transactions that click ads and the distributor, Apple, makes a small fraction of that for providing the search access points. Where's xAI's lucrative return here? Where's their 80:20 split?

Eye balls, DAU and SuperGrok subscription. Also, data. It's a smart move. Also helps to get integration between X and Telegram.

Congrats on launching. But why are comments on the YT video turned off?

Our mistake. We're not really social media users.

This is well known, why a Show now?

This user apparently submits a lot of podman urls: https://news.ycombinator.com/submitted?id=twelvenmonkeys

Maybe they work for their marketing department? Technically this is a form of spam that should probably be discouraged here.

We went from Impossible to Unreliable. I like the direction as a techie. But not sure as a sociologist or an anthropologist.

It would be even more amazing if it had tests. It's already pretty good.

I will add unit tests next.

Should the tests include some 10 GB files?

Should include a script for generating 10GB files maybe

Use tmpfs (/dev/shm) and it doesn't even have to hit the disk, all in memory but with filepaths as the library API might expect :)

Naah. I meant unit tests. Not load tests.

Digression. In my understanding, genie out of the bottle seems like having negative connotation. But the article is positive about Spacex. Am I wrong?

I don’t think the expression is positive or negative. It just means we can’t go back. I guess that could be positive or negative case by case depending on how you feel about going back or not.

The confetti is out of the canon.

It’s not just you. I expected the article to compare it to Tesla’s trajectory, where they proved out the hard part of the technology (batteries vs reusable craft), but then faltered after a dozen other companies followed their playbook, but had better product instincts.

The current administration forced Europe to invest heavily in aerospace, and they’re doing just that. SpaceX’s approach to R&D is reproducible. They have a 10 year head start, but that’s not a huge amount of time when the goal is colonizing the solar system.

This is scary. Sad that Microsoft has to resort to this.

VS Code with Copilot.

This is the way.

Getting great results both in chat, edit and now agentic mode. Don’t have to worry about any blocked extensions in the cat and mouse game with MS.
