No Groundwater is depleting due to out of control and growing population. And those people are demanding higher quality of life.

India is severely undeveloped and polluted due to its population bomb explosion.

Climate scare-mongering doesn’t solve the root problem.

All these “War on” political grandstanding does is kill a lot of people, increase a lot of taxes and inflate the poor into destitution.

War on Drugs. War on Terror. War on Cancer.

Same pig but different shades of lipstick.

US govt has become unbelievably bloated and overreaches every aspect of life today.

Slogans like these help them keep expanding and hurting the people.

Please don't take HN threads on generic ideological tangents. They're repetitive and tedious. More here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29666852.

Edit: you've unfortunately been posting a ton like this (unsubstantive flamebait and name-calling). Please don't! We're trying for a different sort of forum.

It’s not a tangent. It’s how these things turn out.

If you want to silence people speaking their minds and instead of humming along and cheer your neo-communist vision of the future.

Then by all means go ahead and cancel me.

Keep your precious silicon valley socialist/totalitarian club to yourself.

PG is banned? That's the first I'm hearing of that.

pg is not banned on HN.

One of these is not like the others.

It’s dead and has been for a decade

There is slow but active development. Occasionally new releases appear. There is a new, active distro under development.

I don't think this fits the definition of "dead". Not very lively, but not dead.

Then join us. Help us get it the last mile. Don't just say "it looks like it's dead".. be part of the solution. :) You are more than welcome to join!

Hi Greg. :-)

I think you meant to reply to @safdev, to whom I was also replying.

Oh, yeah, i did. Thanks. :)

:-D

That turns out not to be the case. It is in both active development and use.

Not dead at all. I have been working with a number of companies to help them use it. Surprising definition of dead. ;) Join us, be part of the solution!

Software dies with its last user or curious historian. Open step is quite far from that.

11 years ago, I did something like that. I was trying to use particle swarm optimization to efficiently update neural network weights, it didn’t work well.

Don’t ask me why I even tried, I was a dumb but code happy undergrad!

Now this looks promising!

I hope with advent of modules we can get package manager half as good as cargo but for C++

Nix.

There isn't an ensmallen package yet, but I wouldn't imagine it will take long and I guess it'll be a 20-30 line package.

Have you tried the Conan package manager? It seems to be gaining in popularity in recent years:

http://conan.io/

(Personally I haven't used it yet)

I don't think modules are going to help with packaging. But vcpkg is getting pretty good, with C++'s ecosystem being the way it is. There is no one way, and it seems to allow for a multitude of build systems. I've been using it with it's newer manifest mode and mostly don't need to leave it these days.

Spack is pretty damn good for scientific stuff

The library is header-only, so that at least makes the packaging process a little easier.

Isn't that what the OS package manager is for?

This is a perpetually failed project waste tax payer money on incompetent scientists and engineers.

#NotAScienceEquipment #wontlaunch

I'd much rather my tax dollars be spent on 11B failed telescopes than failed trillion dollar fighter jets. Or really most other defense project to be honest.

It’s not going up. ESA’s incompetence makes sure that this telescope doesn’t see the light of space.

I like this management style, quick and dirty! No meddling or prodding. The people know where they stand and not waste time in limbo.

This something that excites me immensely! I always had trouble following Principia’s notations!
