If you're ever in Shenzhen, I recommend going to the Shenzhen Museum. It's pretty amazing to see how quickly it grew (~40 years), and the level of stuff that they were making early on vs now.

Another big take away for me was that they highlighted who had been the chief customs officer over time. Controlling the flow of goods in and out is matter of pride for Shenzhen and China.

Waymo (at this time) is an alternative to taxis and ride hailing services. I've lived in SF for 30+ years and used all modes of transit here. Some of my most frightening moments on the road have been in taxis with drivers who are reckless, in badly maintained vehicles, sometimes smelling of booze. There are certainly other ways that taxis could have been improved, but given the way things have evolved (or devolved with taxis), I feel much safer in a Waymo.

Any comparison of Waymo's safety should be done against taxis/Uber/Lyft/etc. A comparison with the general driving public could also be interesting, or other commercial drivers, but those are not the most relevant cohorts. I don't know the numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if taxis/Uber/Lyft are worse per mile than general drivers since they are likely under more stress, and often work for long hours. A Waymo is no less safe at 4am, but a Lyft driver who's been up all night is a lot less safe. I would also guess that they are less likely than the general (auto) driving population to own their vehicle. Depending on who owns a vehicle, how long they've been driving (years), there's going to be a lot of interesting correlations.

I came here to say the same thing. General MIDI defines the sequence of the drum sounds. Unless there's a really good reason to deviate from that, it is a standard.

So, if any of you guys have any specific ideas on how i should approach that please contact me via luhasz.wesz at google mail.

Since you’re porting the 808’s sounds/panel I understand the order you have matches it. I also agree it should be reversed if only because the kick/snare are lower frequency sounds and the hats are higher frequency and that would map better to reversing the direction that is currently on the site.

Love this btw, it will be fun to noodle on this when I’m away from the studio

I love that the company is called Q-Cat. Reminds me of another hyped piece of tech: the CueCat [0].

In the world of CAD, Plasticity is only expensive when compared with free tools. The “Indie” version is $149USD, and yes a lot of that cost apparently goes to paying Siemens for a Parasolid license. Shapr3D is also Parasolid based, along with NX, Solidworks, Onshape and a bunch of others.

We used to be stuck with Comcast, but we had no trouble using our own modem and router.

We moved from lower Nob Hill to Russian Hill and were finally able to get fiber from Sonic. We went from ~300Mbps down to 1G (more like 750Mbps) and from $137/month to $50/month. Oh and it’s symmetric, very much unlike cable. So happy to get rid of Comcast.

Agreed. The tolerances inside a 5-way stick switch like that are so tight, just manually disassembling and reassembling a brand new one is likely to make it flakey. It would be much better to find the right replacement component and desolder the dead one and replace it. The challenge would likely be identifying the part and getting a single replacement part. If it happens to be something available from Digikey or Mouser that's great, but there's always a chance that it's a slightly tweaked version of a "standard" part or even something that was made only for LG. I found some parts from E-Switch and Alps on Mouser quickly that look visually similar, but I would need access to the original PCBA to evaluate dimensions etc...

I really wonder who benefits from this. Trump only does things that are good for him, or those close to him. I realize he's been making connections to the crypto world, and has his own meme coins. Does pardoning Ross somehow make crypto more valuable?

It’s also just good politics. There are a vocal group of voters that are in favor of this, so it gets those people on his side. And no reason not to (politically), as most people just don’t care about this topic, or if they do and disagree with the decision, this isn’t going to be the action that moves the needle for them on how they feel about Trump or the Republican Party.

Partisan caricature is not a reliable starting point for logical inference or deduction. To answer your question - on the campaign trail he attended a convention of libertarian organizers and promised them that if he won he would free Ross, and has followed through on that promise today.

A video from Reason magazine a few days ago[0] mentioned a deal between the Libertarian Party leadership and Trump in which they selectively didn't run their candidate in several states in order to help Trump. If this is true, Trump could have reneged, but evidently decided whatever political blowback for pardoning Ulbricht (which is probably small potatoes at this rate) wasn't worth the credibility cost.

Trump made the deal at the Libertarian National Convention to garner their support.

It’s almost a scandal that politician followed through on a campaign promise.

I tried it for about a 1/2 hr and it was nothing like TikTok in terms of content, UX, or the algorithm. More of a fail than Reels or Shorts, or any other wannabe clones.

have u tried RedNote and Xiaohongshu? Heard a lot of people flocker over there

I first read that very very differently with a word which is almost an anagram of Fertilo, which begins with 'fe' and ends with 'o'. I was very confused how what has been euphemistically described as "swallowing kids" would produce viable eggs.

It's okay, you can say "fellatio", we're adults here
