There’s things that are left out that are important

Many indigenous wanted their kids to go to these schools

There was abuse in the school system everywhere and it seems like catholic schooling has been sexually abusive everywhere

Rural canada was extremely poor

Viruses like influenza ravaged everyone

The media reporting on the matter makes it seem like everything bad of the past was exclusively done to indigenous when it was a combination of life sucking for everyone and then it being a bit worse to the indigenous on top of that. But painting it as this extreme injustice to indigenous is misleading IMO. To say nothing of the extreme grifting and people looking for payouts from the government that only make the lives of the indigenous worse.

> Many indigenous wanted their kids to go to these schools

For a bit more background, see my other reply here:

But I wanted to address this idea that somehow it's alright because the parents were ok with it.

My grandparents sent their children to this school partly because they couldn't afford to feed them and partly because my grandfather (a white man) wanted them there. My mother used to tell me stories of my grandmother going out into the woods and picking berries and hunting just to feed them.

Don't mistake a family sending their children to these schools for responsibility for what happened there or condoning it.

It sounds like you should read the report.

"Life sucking for everyone" is not equal to the government of the day targeting a racial group for the multiple negative policies that were enacted. What level of injustice do you ascribe to taking children away from families if not extreme?

Prizes and rewards are given out for being the biggest victim, so it's natural that people want to out-victim one another for additional resources. Anytime there's resources at stake, people will do what they can to gain them. In Canada it's so perverse that it seems like everyday someone is outed, after gaining a prestigious position, for not having any indigenous heritage at all. But, they used that status to rapidly gain resources over competitors.

Given the incentives, it's an obvious outcome. This occurs in the United States as well.

34% of white Americans who applied to colleges or universities admit to lying about being a racial minority on their application

48% of people who lied claimed to be Native American

3/4 of people who faked being a racial minority on their applications were accepted by the colleges to which they lied

This is it; they're still the hero in their narrative, it's just that this hero overcomes massive victimization.

That they use the victimization as power over others may not even be consciously acknowledged by them, or others.

This is the problem with favoring equity over equality. Where equality’s aim is to reduce all bias in decision making, equity’s aim is to introduce bias for the benefit of a subset of the population. Naturally, people will vie to be in the population that the equity culture’s bias favors.

Which is sad because natives were massively victimized by the Canadian government. It's not exactly a prize or reward, more like a few peanuts being thrown at them by the government to shut up and bugger off.

Ponzi scheme

Negative. The plexiglass increases your odds of getting covid because people have to yell more often, releasing more droplets.

Absolutely true. Even if you shut off all doomscrolling, block twitter, don't use facebook, don't read the news, you'll still interact with people in real life who are spending their time looking at doom narratives or have some sort of propaganda being pushed to them. It is nigh impossible to fight it off.

Not to invalidate the conversation here, but it just occurred to me that reading through a conversation about doom scrolling is in a sense itself doom scrolling.

Definitely possible doing so many things. Following trend and just being in DXY or short SPY. It's a super short time-frame. Anything can happen. Trust test is 10 year + horizons.

Does anyone else notice that the days have been getting shorter lately? Could a fascist nation be manipulating the time so that we're more tired?

Must be the work of the sinister cabal over at the International Earth Rotation Service: https://www.iers.org/IERS/EN/Home/home_node.html

And if it's a cold winter? And if buildings can't be heated and pipes burst? If businesses shutdown because of freezes?

It takes vastly less energy to keep pipes from freezing than it does to keep indoor temperatures at ~70f.

If supplies where dropping 80% Germany would be facing real issues, but that's not the scale we are talking about.

I'm 100% sure that happens for the majority of large subs. Along with paid astroturfing on political subreddits.

Wow

Will there be riots over the mismanagement of the wealth of millions of people? How much have these incompetent managers destroyed? Esg is a cancer to society.

Averaging 9.6 % annually since inception: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario_Teachers'_Pension_Plan. If this is cancer. I’ll have some of it. (Ironically, getting out of tobacco is about as far as their ESG seems to go).

Are their riots over all the other types of tax? As long as people aren't left destitute in the streets it'll just be a couple of old people learning why people have been screaming about ESG for the last couple of decades/that people wearing suits also lie.
