This is why people love working for Elon Musk.

Anyone can raise problem with him & he will fix it directly.

I would think sarcasm is inappropriate in public discourse.

Ah, my mistake.

Remember porn on the web or spam on email?

HN's hate for crypto is hilarious.

Really? I don't recall members of "our own tribe" sitting down and cranking out 2 hours of VHS video takedowns of "the web" or "email".[0]

No, you had members of the dying tribe do that. Time will tell if this is the same thing or not.

This prompts an interesting question! Even though I'm a crypto fan I have a hard time thinking that this will cause some giant rift in tech. But it seems like it may already have!

If theoretically many anti-crypto people do turn out to be the dying tribe, what does that mean? What does that future world look like? What does the living tribe end up looking like?

It looks a lot like no more blockbuster, things more like Netflix, and a whole bunch of people selling their music on Spotify and bandcamp.

Basically, some people don't make it, some new ones do, and a lot of people adapt, some reluctantly or disgruntled and some realize they were wrong.

I might be the one realizing I'm wrong, but of course I doubt it.

No, the dying tribe never went to these extensive lengths and exhibited this level of disgust toward the web or email during its initial rise.

What was the dying tribe in your example? Like how would you define it.

I don't think HN hates crypto itself, at least speaking for myself, I hate the community that formed around it. It is impossible to even have honest conversations about the it because they are drowned out by all the dishonesty and noise about 1000x gains and it being the future of finance which will somehow replace the whole financial system.

Have you heard of this internet thing? it's full of SCAMS and people trying to get advantage of you (with penny stocks, nigerian prince, get-rich-quick websites, and all sort of crap).

Coinbase and Stripe are not startups. They are institutions.

The hacker houses here are still rammed to the gills.

The force is strong with this Jedi.

I have watched this talk from Bret Victor at least once a year to help me think about what to work on:

I am so glad I was accepted to RC. It had a huge impact on my life. Although I was one of the least experienced programmers in my batch, the staff and fellow students made me feel very welcome. My goal was to learn how to make iPhone apps. Here are some highlights:

- A faculty member taught himself Objective-C to help me along.

- Several other students were extremely kind with their time.

- I learnt that even experienced programmers struggle through the debugging process, it’s just that they would find the cause of the problem in a minute and I would take an hour. That was reassuring.

- I paired for the first time.

- I made a bunch of new friends who are now scattered all over the world doing lots of interesting things.

- We played lots of poker and got to see each other in a different environment (for science!).

- RC gave me the confidence to keep plugging away at programming. It showed me that everyone has to keep learning. It taught me a frame of mind which I now apply to all programming problems.

I am forever grateful to the founders and faculty for creating the Recurse Center.

Really enjoying this. Tiny typo: andd -> and

This seems a little blunt and obnoxious. Ryan is trying to help people get their products out there. I'm sure he has a lot of inbound email and may struggle to reply to everyone.
