I just want to say that I completely agree with all the points you made. I just finished attending the Techstars' Patriot Boot Camp. And while this program isn't meant to be a traditional accelerator program, I really got a sense for what Techstars does and how they operate. Even though this event was highly condensed I learned a lot about my business and got a tremendous amount of value from the program.
I agree this seems too be missing the largest percentage of startups who are no less deserving for this kind of help. Many good startups could use this help. It's not hard to figure out if it's a legitimate startup. Just make sure they're registered to do business (i.e., FEIN, tax ID, state license, etc.).
I love the part where it says, "Don't worry. Your computer is safe." This is the same thing they say right before you get a blow dart to your neck, a black bag on your head, and driven to an "undisclosed location." Cool game!
Interesting read. I think it poses a good question about what can be rented/sold as it pertains to information. I think MoneyParking is a bit different than Sweetch from what I can tell so I don't think they have much to worry about. I agree with the other comments that the article is pretty slanted and not very well sighted. But it's a blog. Can't really expect much journalistic integrity from a blog these days.
I think this is great and if the overhead is low it's a great solution (not that text takes much overhead). The issue I have is that I've actually typed out a text then deleted it because I thought twice about sending that message. Not sure where a situation would arise where this type of service would be of value.
Easily one of my favorite artists. I'm sad they didn't include more Rhymesayers Artists. I think a lot of them would be to the right of this scale. Guys like P.O.S. and Brother Ali are also very versatile.
