I daydream about a DevDocs to use as an index for our company Google Drive.
The goal being to create something like Notion or Almanac but without having to have a new place to write (google docs functionality is really great and hard to escape).
We currently use Google Sites but it's so clunky and the search will not search inside Google Docs.
Google Drive as is doesn't work as it is too full of too many things. Even well structured, it doesn't function as an Intranet, for us.
I think the answer is that one just waits for Google to make their response to Notion/Loop, but post this in case someone knows of something like that or sees this a different way?
Evercam has used Seaweed for a few years. We've 1344TB of mostly jpegs and use the filer for folder structure. It's worked well for us, especially with low cost Hetzner SX boxes. I'd echo other people's positive comments about the maintainer's responsiveness & support. Happy to (try and) answer questions.
we don't use any replication, Also in almost 5 years we only had one server crash which was due to file-system corruption, and we overcome that as well, it was a few leveldb files which got corrupt due to which the whole XFS file-system was went down, but we recovered it. Just one drawback was: We never used the same filer for saving files, and Get speed was also quite slow on that one, but with time, the volume compaction and vacuum, everything works fine on GET requests.
REMOTE // Elixir + Ruby + Streaming Video Backend Dev // Evercam Open Source Camera Management // marco@evercam.io
We're a team of 8 building (we hope) the best camera management software in the world. We're open source and we're looking for someone with knowledge of Video, Elixir and RoR. https://github.com/evercam , http://www.evercam.io/jobs
well spotted @vinnyglennon , it's only a small step from this to integrating cctv footage into fantootage. The missing link is whatever is required to make it easier to make requests & retrieve needed footage.
I can't be entirely sure that it's to do with the tools used (I'm familiar with most of the ones mentioned in the comments) but my most successful API designing, at a high level, has been in a spreadsheet.
The big question is whether or not this is a force for good or evil? ... We're getting more cameras whether we like it or not. Is it realistic that everybody could have access to them? Live AND recorded footage? (It amounts to the same thing).
Many technologies have the potential to be evil (I could decide tomorrow that I want to drive my car at high speed into a shopping mall but more than likely won't*). I think this is certainly more a positive thing than not and there will be abuses from time to time but the power here lies in the potential.
Evercam.io is a developer platform for cameras (any kind of camera). We make it easy for a developer to get a jpeg or stream from a camera, thus unleashing a world of creativity.
We're two experienced founders looking for a CTO / Lead Developer. You'll have to be full-stack and a polyglot, but we're leaning towards Ruby / AWS. The more you know about APIs and Hypermedia, the better.
