I find it most annoying when a computer is used in basically any TV show or movie. The actors always look to just be tapping on the keys at random, often hitting completely irrelevant keys to the task at hand. It doesn't ruin the scene for me but it does not make it as good as it can be. The attention to detail in this film made it more enjoyable.
Extending this to the representation of current technology in TV and film, Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror[1] (particularly the first of the series) has, in my opinion, the most accurate depiction of it I've ever seen.
And she uses a program called "sshnuke" which outputs "[a]ttempting to exploit SSHv1 CRC32." Although sshnuke doesn't exist, the CRC32 exploit is real.
Even the name of the app points to its competition. If the sky is dark I am most likely to bring an umbrella. It is however beneficial if I know I need to walk somewhere in a given amount of time. Seeing when the sky will be dark but no rain would be nice, but Ill still have my umbrella with me regardless.
If you look at the the chart there is a large jump in the data.
"Notes on the data: Only birth dates after 1910 can be accommodated and only countries with populations of more than 100,000 people are included. Where available, the UN's medium variant and average figures from 2005-2010 have been used. World and country population clocks are estimates based on the latest UN figures and growth rates. They may not tally precisely with other clocks because of the way this application is configured."
The first chess-related work of fiction that comes to mind is "The defense", by Nabokov. The main character is similarly obsessed with chess and comes to see everything in terms of chess. There's a movie adaptation called "The Luzhin defense", with John Turturro and Emily Watson, which I thought was OK.
One key aspect of statistics is randomly sampling, this poll has bias for sure. It is still interesting to see what HNers make with respect to where the live. It would also be interesting to see salary data compared to hours worked per week and self-employed or not.
I am with Teksavvy in Southern Ontario and just this morning it appears that Rogers finally got around to turning of the cable (from the last tenants) they also managed to turn off our Internet connection.
Classic and I've already seen a similar story about 3 times in the last 2 weeks on my twitter feed from people switching to Teksavvy in the area. Teksavvy is great.
