I don't understand: the article appears to report on the effect of Thioflavin T (ThT), which is not among the numerous synonyms for Sudan I that the wikipedia article lists. I followed the Sudan III and Sudan IV references, and didn't find anything there, either.

I am not a chemist; just curious.

There's already an app for when it fails: Remember the Milk.

A little snarky, no? With all the talk of "save HN", comments like this really don't seem to add anything worthwhile to the discussion.

A little snarky, yes. Naming a development team 'Milk' is like naming an iPhone app 'Color'.

Your previous comment had nothing to do with the disadvantages of the name and everything to do with making a clever, ironic joke, which, by the way, was negative to begin with ("for when it fails".)

Unless you think that "Milk" is a bad name because a random iPhone app's name can be used in a roundabout way.

I hate to be so critical, but Reddit-style comments like this really don't belong here.

O. I forgot to mention that–it was also a test to see how a reddit-comment would fare. Mixed results–but I'd say HN has fallen, considering only one person attacked me for it.

Make commenting cost 2 karma.

I got laughed at right before our YC W11 interview for my 'sepia-tinted screen'. I live on the east coast, and my clock hadn't changed cause I was still tethering.

>> There are real data needs and real capital costs.

What real capital costs changed between the $14 million they were getting before Sequoia and when they got $41 million total including Sequoia?

When my co-founder and I went to interview for YC W11, the only good restaurant near our hotel was an In-n-Out. We were there for four days. We didn't find out about the secret menu until dinner of the fourth day...

Or 'How to know when you should start working out.'

I thought I would be the first with the same snarky comment :) Seriously though, I use my iPhone 4 in much the same way all the time and have never found it to be too heavy in any way. The solid feel also makes it less "toy like", which really doesn't impact function, but sure makes me feel better about what I spent my money on!

> these guys claiming to be surprised and disappointed by Apple’s insistence on a 30 percent cut of subscriptions...

They're surprised by the language Apple used, not Apple's insistence. But I guess being accurate would make for a less sensational blog post.

>And how can they claim that Readability isn’t “serving up content”? That’s exactly what Readability does.

It doesn't serve up unique content, and it doesn't serve up its own content (eg NY Times, USA Today). In that sense, it doesn't serve up content. But I guess not saying that would result in a less-sensational blog post.

> Readability needs Apple to publish an app in the App Store. Apple doesn’t need Readability.

They don't need Readability. But they do need TinyGrab, Readability, et al. But I guess not making broad generalizations wouldn't make for a sensational blog post.

One word: pageviews.

'Put together a business plan to raise the $1million needed to take it from an idea in your head to an actual business'. How would you possibly spend $1M simply getting a Groupon clone started?

Facebook and AdWords Content Network ads to get email submissions. (If you want 10k strong opt-in email lists in each of 10 cities for your early adopter set, that cost cost you $100k by itself. More as GroupOn and competitors grab the low hanging fruit of signups and cheap ad inventory.)

Website design and development, sales staff to get the deals to populate the site, customer support staff to keep customers on side, system administrators, a marketing person or team, advertising, PR, office space... the list goes on.

Sure it doesn't cost $1m to get a Groupon clone built in php on elance.com but if you plan to succeed in an increasingly crowded space you're going to need money.
