Exactly, and indirectly supported all business, with roads, the police, schools...

Government should own a stake in every business, and citizens should then get shares in that government fund.

I think that stake is called taxes. As for the shares, they're supposed to come in the form of government services.

AGI is a science problem.

We've lucked into these amazing abilities by just scaling.

But we don't really understand how they work.

And they are obviously missing a piece, some self-reflection, or continuous-loop operation perhaps, which we again don't understand.

Perhaps we'll do all this engineering and luck the solution again, but I think probably not.

And anecdotally they now censor some things, as I'm seeing much less private jet and helicopter activity than I used to, especially those that have to be triangulated.

This is amazing!

Let's hope it pans out for eyesight, and I'm sure there must be a whole lot of other things this could apply to.

You won't believe these outrageous trademarks exist!

How to make you trademark sizzle with sexy!

"always available and will cater to a child’s every whim. But AI will never fulfill children’s deepest desires."

I'm pretty sure it will be able satisfy almost every desire. But I think there's quite a confusion about desire, even deep desire, and deep needs and what's ultimately good for us.

Capitalism makes the same mistake.

Text-only is fine, but why do you need to make it look like a page of typewriter output?

It kind of undermines the argument, and instead insists that the site looking like just a page of text is the important aspect.

"but it also meant that our ground-floor neighbors don’t have a window blocked that’s under the stairs."

That's a thing you could have done, cover their window with your AC unit? It seems like something that planning regulations should prevent. And still, they have a loud compressor right next to their window.

War is peace

Freedom is slavery

Ignorance is strength

It's pretty disgusting to be honest, a captive, bored and/or stressed audience. Though I'm sure they're popular.

A compromise might be if all the profits went toward perks at the base, better food, etc.

According to the article that seems to be the case:

> The ARMP’s earnings go back into each branch’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR). Some of it pays for entertainment on bases, such as golf courses, bowling alleys, and libraries. “Proceeds that are returned to MWR are decided and allocated by the garrison commander at each installation,”

Though it still feels questionable to me.

If you told soldiers that all the gambling money was going back in, I’m sure some people would be encouraged to spend every last cent, since they’re not really “losing”

I doubt it. Instead it gives cover for the institution that is making the slot machines available.

Great, now divert the money into their 401k funds and trick them into funding their own retirement.

So basically a State lottery then.
