Is the desktop app native?

No, it’s just electron. I don’t see the benefit over making it a PWA or even just a regular self-hosted web app.

The download page says only macOS is currently supported. Electron supports Windows and Linux quite well - any ETA on when you will be adding these platforms?

We are working on this. We have some test build, but each platform adds bit complexity to the build process so looking to automate better first.

All Linear features, including the offline mode works on the browser tool.

There's an old Jepsen post that used to be referencing that song, but it looks like it's been modified/renamed now: https://aphyr.com/posts/284-call-me-maybe-mongodb

(you can still see it in the url)

When I first discovered aphyr's site, all of the test articles began with "Call Me Maybe:" rather than "Jepsen:", and then one day all the articles were renamed.

I've always suspected he changed it for legal reasons, and his comment elsewhere in this thread pretty much confirms it.

DGG lets you disable ads in the settings: https://duckduckgo.com/settings#general

But the main difference is that DGG chooses ads based only on search term, as opposed to tracking you and collecting your data across the entire net.

so iow, less relevant ads that are more likely to just get in the way and not be a product I want

The service has to monetize somehow? Unobtrusive, non-retargeted aren’t a dealbreaker by any means for me, and I loathe the ads industry in general

The bottom of the page says it was updated today, now it says this:

> Are these stories personalized to me?

> For the most part, no. Most recommendations on your new tab come from a general list of the best of stories on the web. But Pocket is actively exploring ways to deliver personalized recommendations in a way that vigorously protects users’ privacy. Importantly, neither Mozilla nor Pocket ever receives a copy of your browser history. When personalization does occur, recommendations rely on a process of story sorting and filtering that happens locally in your personal copy of Firefox.

I just don't understand why a "static site" needs to download and run almost 1 mb of minified JS.

You can press Ctrl+C and it should give you a message reminding you how to quit.

I just google to be safe and not have the content changed by mistake. Because is not happening often I always forget the details so I am never 100% sure of the correct way.

I've found it's great for Discord, and pretty good for Slack (although I've been using Slack in my browser now that it's become critical during WFH).

Unfortunately it's proprietary, but there's another native client called gtkcord3 [0] that seems to be progressing well.

> privacy-conscious people and those adverse to advertising are the very people advertisers would pay a lot of money to reach.

Why? Not trying to be snarky, just genuinely curious, I'd expect that those people would generally be less susceptible to advertising.

My theory with this is that someone privacy-conscious, ad-adverse and those who block ads signal both that their time is too valuable to be wasted by advertising and they have the skills to install technical countermeasures against them. This correlates favourably with developers and similar positions that typically have higher than average salaries (thus more purchasing power) and the possibility of influencing purchasing decisions at their company for enterprise products.

Is there language server support/is it planned?
