We’re looking for a strong Technical Lead to join our team. This individual will lead the engineering team and our community of open source contributors in making good decisions and implementing solid designs. They will work closely with product and design to effectively convert designs and requirements into features. They’ll support the engineering team in making good decisions and actively provide guidance and feedback to staff engineers and contributors. In concert with QA, the Technical Lead will own code quality for the organization.

Akvo is looking for a dynamic and visionary Chief Technical Officer (CTO) to drive our technical solutions and platform development. This is a unique opportunity to take our technical solutions to the next level. With a team of data and development experts, an open source data platform and a proven methodology, we help governments and non-governmental organizations become data driven so that they can achieve inclusive and sustainable impact.

In this role as CTO, you will be responsible for all aspects of our technical solutions, including technical consultancy and product development. You will lead and supervise Akvo's Technical Solutions team of 17 people, and make sure they are able to develop and operate our standard products and custom technical solutions. You are a visionary leader that drives Akvo's strategy regarding technical data solutions for our partners. You also play a key role in developing, implementing and executing Akvo's global strategy. The team members of the Tech Solutions team are located all over the world, therefore your remote leadership skills are crucial.

As our CTO, you will be a member of Akvo's management team (MT) and inform the MT members on all strategic matters relating to technical solutions. You will frequently align with our hub managers and project managers.

This position is based in Amsterdam, and you will be reporting to the CEO.

We are hiring a Java developer to join the team for one of our core software products, Akvo FLOW. FLOW is an open source platform to collect, manage, analyse and display geographically-referenced monitoring and evaluation data.

We have some fun and hard problems to solve - how can we maintain and extend a complex tool with a lot of moving parts (a mobile app, a web platform, map displays) while keeping it simple and enjoyable for people to use? Double down when they need to be able to use it in areas of the world with low or scarce web and mobile connectivity.

You'll be working with our international team, based out of our Amsterdam office You need experience with developing web applications with Java, and experience with JS frameworks like Ember is a plus. Ability to work in a distributed team in a self driven manner is expected.

We are seeking a skilled, self-motivated, pro-active and energetic UI developer / designer. Reporting to the lead designer, your primary responsibility will be to create and ensure a consistent and beautiful UI throughout our software platform, which includes web applications, desktop applications and mobile / tablet applications.

You have to be able to adapt to a fast changing environment where multi-tasking is a must. You will be required to design and develop functional user interfaces as well as keeping the brand consistent across the organisation and a range of different products.

We are looking for someone to be based in Helsinki, Stockholm or Amsterdam. You must have a work permit already to work in one of these locations.
