If you read the bottom of NIST's press release, they've tasked their Visiting Committee on Advanced Technology (recently co-chaired by Vint Cerf) to do a review of NIST's crypto standardization process. Their review will be released to the public.

See the following for more info on the VCAT:

"Attackers used a well-known method to bring down a system known as Denial of Service (DoS) - in which huge amounts of data are forced on a target, causing it to fall over."

Really? If it's so well-known, then perhaps Dave Lee should inform himself that DoS is a method, not a system. Does the server literally fall over too??

Attackers used a well-known method (to bring down a system) known as Denial of Service (DoS)

The sentence is missing commas, but it's clearly saying that a DoS is a method.

Yes, for sure. As someone who works there, there's nothing more annoying for staff assistants sitting through hundreds of irrelevant calls from uninformed people reading a script. It's not a problem to call offices already in support of the legislation, but make sure those calling know that before they dial!

This is the right question. ICANN likes to put out these happy press releases, but they don't give us the details. It's necessary to name and shame the TLDs that are behind the curve.

I can't get it to work in Washington, DC. I smell a conspiracy...

So, what's your plan re: pushing legislation? Have you identified who in Congress will serve as a champion for your cause? Are there any lists of specific demands that any good legislation would address? Changing your avatar on Facebook, Twitter, or G+ won't sway anyone.

Here's the difference. The banks control something critical: the financial system. What's the critical system for the tech companies? The Internet. Tech companies don't control it, so they don't have as much leverage.

I'm just curious -- What do you want to do with your design/coding knowledge? I'm in the non-tech world and have the desire to learn for the sake of learning, but I also want to know what the hell I'm going to do with it!

It's blocked by my work firewall. Oh well!

Sounds like a personal problem.
