I'll feel pessimistic like this, but then something like Tinfoil Chat [0] comes along and sparks my interest again. It's still all just theoretical to me, but at least I don't feel so bad about things.

With a little bit of hardware you could get a lot of assurance back: "Optical repeater inside the optocouplers of the data diode enforce direction of data transmission with the fundamental laws of physics."

The idea-execution value gap is shrinking.

Windows Firewall Control, now owned by Malwarebytes, adds notification on connection attempt as a feature, while leaving windows firewall running intact.

I've never been fully satisfied with software firewalls, but WFC comes close.

Weird, why does a search show this is from https://www.binisoft.org/wfc. How is this associated with Malwarebytes except the use of their name and logo? I would trust this a lot more if it was hosted by Malwarebytes and not a link on their forum https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/296798-malwarebytes-wi...

lol, lmao even

Well that sounds like oral history, which is how all people used to learn. Strictly fact check everything you say seems like a modern invention.

Us kids loved it. Spent a lot of time configuring rooms, theming them, exploring all the features. The most intriguing one was a mailroom, but that's because it asked to configure your modem and email server settings which I couldn't do. Had separate profiles for each of us in the family and our friends; but we soon learned you could reset anyone's password by saying you forgot it. Once the griefing started it lost some appeal, but I still have only fond memories of MS Bob.

Yes, I have only positive memories of it! Customizing the house was like a primitive version of The Sims.

The point is that regardless if you're negative, neutral, or positive of others using data for profit, you would hold those who use it altruistically higher.

I hold both of them high enough. As Aaron, I did my good share of book/articles piracy, even before it was online (here in Mexico it was veery common to Xerox and share whole books with students in the 80s and 90s).

I understand, Aaron became a martyr; even though he died due to depression and not for "a cause". I applaud what he achieved as a person.

M4 Pro 512GB --> 2TB cost: $600

M4 Pro read/write: ~5.4/6.7 GB/s

Samsung 990 Pro 2TB: $170

990 Pro R/W: ~7.1/6.2 GB/s

Samsung 990 Evo 2TB: $130

990 Evo R/W: ~4.8/3.9 GB/s

Sorry no links, looked at tomshardware, Amazon, and macrumors forums for numbers.

Samsung has an 8TB and 4TB model as well. The 8TB is 509 euros in Germany (inc VAT). The 4 TB one is 233 euro.

I have an older 2TB one. USB 3.2. Plenty of speed for putting lots of media, large software packages (e.g. Xplane 12 with a lot of scenery) etc.
