I believe the folks at Bigscreen got that one right. Their headset seems to be small and light enough, and good enough image quality. Their Beyond 2 is 107g!
Can't walk around with it though. Not just because of the tether but because they don't care about supporting AR.
I actually cancelled my order of the BSB2 because I decided that I like having a camera to temporarily see around me when I'm moving out of the safe area. They responded to that by basically saying 'yeah a camera would add some amount of extra weight and we're trying to cut as much as we can'.
But it seems like a super awesome device if you're not moving around or you know you have tons of space.
Also cooking. If you don't have your groceries sorted and a little planning for prepping some meals ahead, suddenly you have a fridge full of ingredients and nothing to eat.
yuck - while the soylent diet might be efficient on short term, it's not sustainable. It's harder at first to eat better, healthier foods (more vegetables and fruits, meat and eggs, less fried foods and stuff with a zillion additives or refined sugars) but so much easier to maintain once the habit is formed. Stuff yourself with whole foods 80% of the time, it's going to be ok to eat a burger with fries or a pizza every now or then, and it doesn't feel like a sacrifice. Bonus: you'll feel the difference in energy levels.
So you believe it's easier to learn which combination of letters in the context of a given interface means "home" or "chat" than an icon? You don't understand how the human brain works, it's much quicker to discern an icon as you glance at a screen then find a word and get your brain to interpret their meaning. There are 26 letters in the English alphabet, an enormous amount of dictionary words, but it very unusual to have a single screen containing more than 10 different icons.
To understand icons, they must resemble something you have seen before. If you were born in 2005, you won't know what the button with the floppy disk on it does because you have never seen or used a floppy.
Or a cloud to mean "upload", or a thin moon crescent to mean "sleep".
These are things that don't derive from the real world (any more) and must be explicitly communicated.
Same thing for designers, "anyone can create a website now with squarespace/webflow/framer" - cue the template markets, where the templates are made by - you guessed - designers...
+1 for rucking. It's as easy as walking and you can progressively increase the weights if you want more effort - I need a better backpack for my weights!
I asked for a map of Paris with all the arrondissements (since there's no way to get that from google maps) and it showed me a diagram instead of a map. Chatgpt at least gives me a link to the wikipedia page with the map image.
