I've always thought profit sharing was more fair overall than shares/options for most employees. I'm really glad to hear that this happens at relatively larger companies too.
Strongly disagree for tech companies. At tech companies there is almost always significant lag between when value is created and when profits on that value are realized. The employees who worked for Amazon for the first 10 years generated incredible value but little profit. The value of equity takes into account all of the future profits of the company, not just what is left over in any particular year. The engineers who created Windows are still being compensated for it today if they held their shares, even if they stopped working for Microsoft 20 years ago. That is fairness. The company benefits from your work even after you leave, you benefit from the company's growth due to your work.
I've been working on https://dedolist.com/ on and off since summer. I wanted a one stop place to find and be able to use open data from around the web. I even have an open API (no authentication required currently) for each data source. I have basically done no marketing at all for it. Mostly just wanted an excuse to play with some new technologies (Netlify and Eleventy in this case).
Not sure how much I want to continue adding data sources or supporting it, but it doesn't really cost me much keeping it online currently.
This is really great! I used to work at another music startup where we did something similar. I've been using OnSong (mobile app) to organize my songs for live performances, but I love that this is focused on creation. Excited to try it out.
Thank you! OnSong looks cool - I hadn't heard of it. I'd love to make Songcraft performance-ready as well, I think it would be a very natural feature. Looking forward to your feedback!
I second that, I have discovered more new artists, and new releases through Rdio than anywhere else. Hopefully their competition does better with discovery in the future.
The scroll animations don't work for me either, Firefox 28 on Windows. Works in Chrome.
But frankly I like it better without them. They add no value to the page. When Bret Victor talks about "directing the user's eyes to the solution," [1] I believe he's assuming an information-dense display, which this is not. The page is designed (as many are now) so that only one thing is on the screen at a time. I already know how to look at the thing I'm scrolling to — that's why I'm scrolling. This eye candy is kind of nauseating and I'm happy to think it's a fad.
This is a critique of the OP, not of Webflow, which I'm sure can be put to good use.
I get why Google suspended the app. That was excessive use of the keywords. What I don't get is why this seems to be an absolute suspension with no recourse. It would make a lot more sense if Google gave them a chance to change the listing to comply with their terms then reinstate the app when it did. Better for the developers and better for the users.
